SAN ANTONIO (May 13, 2014) -- Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) has announced the hiring of Terry Smith as the Assistant Coach for men's and women's cross-country and men's and women's track & field.

Smith comes to OLLU from the University of the Incarnate Word (2012-2014), where as a graduate assistant/assistant coach, his areas were sprints, jumps and hurdles and his specified events were hurdles, strength and conditioning. In his first year at UIW, both the men's and women's 4x100 relay teams won conference titles and ran the NCAA Division II National Championship meet. Prior to UIW, Smith coached at McMurry University from 2011-2012. There, his areas were sprints, jumps and hurdles and his specified events were hurdles, strength and conditioning. He also was on the staff of the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's National Track and Field Team Champion.

Head Coach Stephen Sherman said, "We had more than 40 applicants for the position, most of whom were well-qualified, but at the end of the day, we felt Terry was the best fit for our situation. Terry can coach any event on the track and field, and he also has extensive experience with strength and conditioning. He has worked for two very successful programs under head coaches for whom I have a lot of respect. Furthermore, Terry has competed and had success at very high levels of track including scoring points for an NCAA Division III National Championship Track and Field team. I am very excited about getting Terry here in August."
